Refunds
If a refund has not been received within 3-6 months of processing, please email status@taxfreeshopping.com including the following information for the person that applied for the refund: full name as it appears on passport, name of country that issued passport, passport number, date of your visit, and application ID number (located below the bar code on application). Extended wait times may be influenced by retailer payment date and/or a check being lost in the mail.
Yes, please provide the alternate mailing address and alternate payee name when creating your application with us. To make a change to an already processed check application, please contact our main office to update your application.
No, Texas law requires you must request your refund before you depart.
$12 minimum of sales tax per physical store is required. Receipts from the same physical store may be combined (store number and address must be the same) even if they are purchased on different dates.
- Cash: 50% of total sales tax on the refund application
- Check: 35% of the tax we are able to collect plus $4.00 per physical store location
- PayPal: 35% of the tax we are able to collect plus $4.00 per physical store location
Processing time is typically 3 to 6 months under normal customer traffic conditions. More complex applications and/or peak seasons may affect refund completion time. Current pandemic conditions are causing additional delays. Please reach out to our main office for an update on your refund at any time.
Cash refunds have a maximum net payout of $1000 per person per day. Unlimited cash refunds may be offered on a seasonal basis and at select locations. Please contact our Corporate Office for more information. Check and PayPal are always unlimited.
Merchandise
Yes, if you are a foreign passport holder. All item inspections must be performed by TaxFree Shopping employees at TaxFree Shopping locations. US Passport holders are not eligible for advance merchandise inspection. Merchandise inspections performed at other companies are not valid for use with TaxFree Shopping.
No. State Law requires that the property be produced so the customs broker can verify that the property is the same property as described in the sales receipt.
Texas Law requires it. If an item is used in Texas, the item will lose its eligibility for a sales tax refund. For example: jewelry is eligible for sales tax refunds, however, if jewelry is worn prior to departure of Texas, it loses its eligibility for a sales tax refund.
Purchases must be made or received within 30 days of date of departure from Texas. For online orders, printed tracking information may be needed to prove that the item arrived within 30 days of departure from Texas. TaxFree Shopping is not liable for refunds expiring due to passage of time. To help ensure your purchased items stay eligible for sales tax refunds, it is suggested to purchase within the last 2 weeks before departure.

Yes, anyone is eligible for a Sales Tax refund as long as the purchased items are exported and proper exportation procedures are followed. The US Constitution Article 1 Section 9 Paragraph 5 guarantees “No Tax or Duty shall be laid on Articles exported from any State.” Example: Christmas gifts taken to family overseas or a US Citizen living abroad may qualify.
*Please Note: Cartier, Mont Blanc, Officine Panerai and Van Cleef & Arpels purchases are not eligible to be processed for U.S. Passport holders.
A U.S. passport and boarding pass indicating you will be traveling beyond the territorial limits of the United States. These documents must be presented on the day of departure and verified at an airport location of TaxFree Shopping.
Yes, you will need to provide the Bill of Lading from the air cargo or ocean freight carrier. The Bill of Lading must meet specific requirements in order for us to process. Please contact info@taxfreeshopping.com for more information.
Yes, only purchases made within 30 days* of your departure from Texas are eligible. TaxFree Shopping must also process your refund within this time frame.

No, original documents must be present at time of processing.
- Online orders must be shipped to a Texas address or picked up in a Texas store. For online order pick up purchases, please print a copy of your emailed receipt to include with the retailer receipt provided to you.
- Tracking information may be needed to prove the customer took possession of the items within 30 days of departure from Texas.
- Must be the final proof of sale provided by the store to the consumer, whether they are in physical or electronic format, that is not marked as duplicate, reprint or as an internal store copy.
- All receipts must show that the sale was made in a Texas store or shipped to a Texas address, date of purchase, amount of Texas sales tax charged and paid, and purchased item description.
The Texas law requires a physical home address for exportation records. Fill in your physical home address on page 1, include P.O. Box under the Alternate Payment Address section on page 2. If you are a foreign passport holder you must provide a foreign physical address.
Stores
Click here to download TaxFree Shopping’s registration form. Once completed, send back to TaxFree Shopping via email or fax. TaxFree Shopping will promptly enter retailer’s Texas stores into its system and begin accepting store’s receipts for sales tax refunds. Email info@taxfreeshopping.com for more details.
The sales tax refund program is optional in Texas. Retailers must first register with TaxFree Shopping before refunds can be facilitated. If a store is not on the Participating stores list, TaxFree Shopping will be unable to accept those receipts.
Retailers must register to participate through their corporate office for TaxFree Shopping to refund their customer’s sales tax. If you plan to make a large purchase at a non-participating retailer, contact TaxFree Shopping (info@taxfreeshopping.com) in advance so we may attempt to acquire them as a participating retailer. Communication between customers and retailers can expedite the registration process for stores. Please note this process may take time and refunds may not be immediately available.
Alternatively, Participating stores may offer similar and/or the same products as non-participating stores.
